( ) I was looking for some kind of typical, not-too-trashy fiction to take my mind away from obsessing over things that really don’t matter that much. This did the trick, though albeit not as well as I had hoped for.
This book actually tells a few different stories of characters whose lives end up all being intertwined. A newly-wed pregnant social worker who hires a nanny for her step kids seems to be the main narrative though. You think you know which way the events are heading, but there is a huge twist at the end that you won’t see coming. Unfortunately, this unexpected plot change isn’t done smoothly. It feels disjointed, like the author didn’t plan for it, but instead decided last minute the novel needed this different finish, and swiftly went through and edited her work to account for it. This may not be the case, but it’s the feeling I got after reading it.
