Notes on a Banana by David Leite

( thumbs_side ) Leite chronicles his tumultuous journey through life as a gay man with wavering weight, moods, and stability. He focuses a good amount of the novel on his life as a child in a poorer Portuguese family, and then moves on to his adult life as a successful (but not wealthy) culinary writer.

He focuses on times of struggle in his life such as acceptance of his sexuality, discovery of his Bipolar II disorder, and various relationship issues that he grows from. It’s a wonderful, relatable personal portrait of the author as the real, creative, and imperfect individual that he is (and as all of us are).
